Verse 14

 सर्वगः सर्वविद्-भानु:विष्वक-सेनो जनार्दनः ।

वेदो वेदविद-अव्यंगो वेदांगो वेदवित् कविः ।।

Sarvaga sarva-vidbhanuh vishva-kseno janardanah |

Vedo veda-vidha-vyango vedango veda-vit-kavih ||

124. Savagaha

'Savatra gachhati iti sarvagaha'

'Savatra' means everywhere

'Gacchati' means which flows or reaches

The knowledge given by the Lord pervades everything.

Saraswati comes from the root word ‘saras’ meaning does not stop or pervades everything.

This name represents the Sankarshana tattva.

125. Sarvavidd

(We have seen earlier that Yogavitt means one who has complete knowledge of yoga.)

Sarvavidd means He is knowledge personified and also has complete knowledge of everything.

This name represents Pradyumna vyuha.

126. Bhanu

‘Bhooti iti Bhanu’

Bha means light /tejas

It is also another name for ‘Surya’ or the Sun God.

He illuminates everything.

Sarvaga Sarvavidd Bhanu means the one who pervades everything with the light of knowledge.

127. Viskvaksena

Vishva means the world

Sena means Army

His entire creation is his army.

We can also understand it as- all the Jnanis (the rishis, munis, and knowledgeable people) are part of his army, that destroys asura roopi ignorance or ajnana with their knowledge or jnana.

This name represents the Anirudh vyuha.

In our body his army consists of the jnanendriyas and karmendriyas ( the sense organs and work organs)

How we use his army within us to create a transformation within is left to us.

128. Janardhana

Jana – born

Ardha means problems or troubles.

Ardha – when evil forces take over, He protects the sajjana.

The one who is born to annihilate the Adharmis and protect the Dharmikas.

129. Veda

Veda comes from vitt meaning knowledge

Vedayati iti veda

The vedas are considered as the ‘breath of Lord’ himself. He himself is in the form of Veda. We cannot completely know the Lord, he is the only one who knows himself completely.

Veda must be spread and cannot be kept hidden.

130. Avyango

Anga means limbs .

He is the one who is completely perfect in all respects

The vedas are also completely perfect and are not deficient in anything.

Thus, He is the one who is self-fulfilled by knowledge and other great attributes and is free from every defect.

131. Vedanga

Knowledge is a part of Him.

Vedaha angabhootah yesya vedanga

We must also make Vedas a part of us .

There are 6 Vedanga or limbs to Veda –

1. Shiksha, how to pronounce vedas, with meaning

2. Kalpa -  how to use them (process)

3. Vyakarna – grammar

4. Nirukta – dictionary – when we break the word what is the meaning what are the limitations.

5. Jyotishya – time aspect  what is the best time to do certain things. Also includes astronomy.

6. Chandas – shruti and laya – arrangement of all the words in a melodious way. When shlokas are chanted in chandas it gives a beneficial effect and elevates us. Eg. Gayatri chanda, brahati chanda, Anustup chanda etc.

The Vishnu Sahasranaama is in anustup chanda.

132 . Vedavitt

This name is repeated. Usually, names are not repeated. But if it is repeated it means something else in this context.

We have earlier seen that Vedavitt means the one who has complete knowledge.

Here it means,

Knowledge must be gained through Shravana (by listening), manana  (by repeating in the mind) and Niribhyasana (questioning what we learn) The one who uses all three ways to gain knowledge is called a vedavitt.

It is amazing to know that our Vedas don’t propound blind belief. They teach us to discuss, debate, go in search of deeper meaning and then be convinced before following anything.

133. Kavi

Kavi is the one who is a person of great vision and perceives everything.

We cannot imagine about something we have not heard. But if we have an idea about it, we can form an opinion.

But He sees everything.

Kavi can also be split as Ka + va

Ka signifying anand or bliss and

Va signifying the Amrutha beeja or jnana

Finding bliss in knowledge.

Lord Ganesh is also called 'kavim kavinam' as this shloka tells us,

ॐ गणानां त्वा गणपतिं हवामहे कविं कवीनामुपमश्रवस्तमम् ।

ज्येष्ठराजं ब्रह्मणाम् ब्रह्मणस्पत आ नः शृण्वन्नूतिभिःसीदसादनम् ॥

Lord Ganesh is called ‘kavim kavinam’ kavi of kavis as he is very far sighted.

This signifies the para tattva or vasudeva tattva of the Lord.

We do not know what is on the other side and the journey to that far side is called parayana.

Jai Shri Krishna!
